What is BAM15?
BAM15 is a small-molecule mitochondrial protonophore investigated in energy metabolism. It is structurally distinct from DNP, although both are discussed in mitochondrial-uncoupling research.
Mechanism & research focus
BAM15 transports protons across mitochondrial membranes, reducing the coupling between nutrient oxidation and ATP production. This can increase respiration and energy expenditure in experimental systems.
What the research covers
A 2020 primary study reported reduced fat accumulation and improved insulin sensitivity in diet-induced obesity models in mice. It also examined liver lipids, oxidative stress and metabolic measures. These experiments support a research hypothesis about controlled mitochondrial uncoupling.
What remains uncertain
Mouse tolerability and body-composition findings do not establish a safe human therapeutic window. Uncoupling potency, exposure and tissue distribution matter, and the cited study cannot validate a commercial formulation. Human weight-management efficacy and long-term safety were not established in the primary evidence reviewed.
The evidence label describes the linked research, not the suitability of a catalog product for use in people. Formulation, identity, purity, and measured content must be assessed separately.
